In the chapter on retrieving you will find two different setup options and several exercises to consolidate hand transfer. Learn how to search for lost items step by step - first with motivating objects and then as your dog learns to look for and display objects that are of no interest to him.
The search for traces involves sausage water trails, sausage drag trails towards one's own track, drag trails combined with retrieving and the backtrack search or also known as the path-back search.
When it comes to odor discrimination, you can choose whether your dog should learn to look for everything that smells like you (own odor identification) or to look for a specific target scent, or he will learn the concept of memory. The target scent search can later be combined with the lost search and trace search areas.
You will find exercises for outside and inside to suit the weather and surroundings. Some are suitable for the garden or yard or simply the sidewalk in front of your front door, some are only practiced on the path and there are also cross-country exercises! Some of the exercises can be trained on a leash, others can be easily carried out off-leash. And the best thing: you already have most of the tools you need in your household or you can buy them for a few euros and take them with you with little storage space!
