Precision in the Handling Area and on the Ideal Line
In the sport of Hoopers, the handler operates from a designated handling area. From there, the dog is guided through the course using visual and verbal cues. To ensure distance control works even at high speeds, our equipment utilizes the canine color spectrum (yellow/blue). This provides excellent visibility of the running lines while the human remains stationary within the marked handling area.
Stability and Orientation During Training
A collapsing obstacle can trigger avoidance behavior in a dog. Therefore, we include matching ground anchors for fixation with our hoops, Hoopers tunnels, and barrels directly. Our robust numbered markers, which clearly identify the running path, provide the necessary structure during training. Our modular plug-in system allows for quick course reconfiguration at any time without the need for tools.

A diameter of 80 cm is the official standard in Hoopers according to VDH regulations. This is particularly important for safety: larger dogs do not have to duck excessively, which promotes fluid movement and protects the spine and joints. What Hoopers gear do beginners need for their first training?
To get started in Hoopers, we recommend a basic set consisting of 4 hoops and one barrel or gate. This allows you to practice fundamental distance work and directional changes. Our starter sets are modularly expandable and VDH-compliant.
What size should the Hoopers handling area be?
The official tournament size according to VDH is a 2 x 2 m square. However, for training purposes, we also offer a more compact 1.5 x 1.5 m variant to increase handling precision.
